FAQ
Do I need FileMind?
FileMind does one thing better than any other application: review and edit almost any file metadata in content-bearing files.
I use Adobe Photoshop as my metadata editor.
Photoshop is a great photo editor. However, it doesn't provide effective tools to carefully review and manipulate a large scope of metadata. Metadata viewing and editing functions are not core features of Photoshop — customizing it is complex and limited.
I have an Image Manager
Image management software such as ThumbsPlus, Lightroom, ACDsee, Photo Mechanic, Aperture and others are optimized to review, organize and archive images and videos. The metadata functionality is better compared to photo editors, but it is not the core functionality. Because FileMind is dedicated to file metadata review and editing, it overs a higher degree of precision and flexibility with customized Workspaces.
My company uses a DAM solution
Digital Asset Management solutions (DAMs) are ideal to keep images and its use under control. They are highly capable in dealing with file metdata. That is, if the configuration capabilities offer what you need. Making substantial changes to the way a DAM deals with metadata can require expensive customization or is even impossible. DAMs may also leave you in the dark about how excactly metadata fields are written in your files.
FileMind is the perfect tool to perform before / after comparisons. Its customizable Workflows are ideal to quickly review or edit files before you check them in in or after you check them out.
I already use other tools for metadata manipulation
Special metadata tools and custom solutions can be powerful — as long as they suit your needs perfectly. Is your tool flexible enough to adopt to changes of your workflow? FileMind is highly customizable and ready for any challenge. Its XML-driven templates and Workspaces are easy to change and don't require programming.
I have a Mac
FileMind requires Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista or Win7). However, this doesn't mean you can't use our software at all: it should work perfectly fine inside an emulator such as Parallels or VMware.
Beta Limitations
These questions relate to the beta versions of FileMind.
Can I install FileMind with multiple Windows accounts?
FileMind needs to be installed and used with the same user account in Windows (beta 0.6.3922). However, it does not require admin rights to run (just for installation).
