FAQ

Do I need FileMind?

FileMind focuses on one task only: giving you a real in-depth view of your metadata. You can't touch up images, edit the text in documents or trim video clips — but you can view and edit all for its metadata, no matter what file type or format it is.

I use Adobe Photoshop as my metadata editor.

Photoshop is a great image editor. Changing metadata information can be confusing, however. Photoshop doesn't lend you a hand when you want to edit any metadata items that are not "out-of-the-box". Even Adobe Bridge (a part of Photoshop) its mainly focused on the way Adobe sees and edits metadata. The metadata viewing and editing functions are not the core selling features of Photoshop — they are therefore not very powerful nor very easy to use.

I have an Image Manager

Image managers such as ThumbsPlus, Lightroom, ACDsee, Photo Mechanic and others are powerful tools to help you with review, organization and archiving processes. While their metadata features are much more powerful compared to photo editors, they are not the center of its functionality.

We have a DAM solutions installed

DAMs are powerful systems that keep images and its use under control and leave the chaos out. They are excellent in dealing with metdata. That is, if the configuration capabilities offer what you need. Making substantial changes to the way a DAM deal with metadata is either impossible or requires expensive customizations. Even after that, DAMs many times leave you in the dark about how excactly metadata fields are written in your files.

FileMind is the right tool to analyze files that have been manipulated by your DAM. Its flexible configuration features allows you to customize FileMind to perfectly fit your DAM import workflow or to change exported assets for any special needs.

I use specialized metadata tools for my workflow

Special metadata tools and custom solutions are great — as long as they suit your needs perfectly. Is your tool flexible enough to adopt to any changes of your workflow? FileMind definitely is ready for any challenge. Its XML-driven templates are easy to change and don't require reprogramming.

I have a Mac

FileMind is currently only available for Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista or Win7). However, this doesn't mean you cannot use it under a Mac at all: it works perfectly fine if you run it under an emulation such as Parallels or VMware.
